Anvil - Valkyrie - The Future of Amphibious Assaults

Development History

In early spring 2807, Anvil Aerospace embarked on a visionary project at the Levindosk Institute on Terra. With a strong reputation for military and private combat spacecraft, and buoyed by the success of the F7A Hornet, Anvil sought to anticipate the United Empire of Earth’s (UEE) future vehicular needs. The team, comprising engineers, theoreticians, and computer scientists, engaged in an extensive wargaming simulation using supercomputers to predict future scenarios and market trends. This initiative aimed to identify the next big support craft, focusing on roles that would complement the existing fleet rather than waiting for government contracts.

The team’s extensive data gathering and analysis, covering census statistics, fleet movements, and spectrum usage metrics, culminated in thousands of potential scenarios. From this, they identified a critical need for advanced landing craft, particularly in scenarios involving Vanduul conflicts. Anvil’s supercomputer predictions highlighted the necessity for a new type of troopship capable of large-scale amphibious operations, leading to the conceptualization of the Valkyrie.

Early Development

Before the Valkyrie, Human amphibious assault craft fell into two categories: small, expensive dropships for specialized operations and larger, expendable spacecraft for deploying entire companies or mechanized units. The Valkyrie aimed to bridge this gap by creating a mass-produced spacecraft that could transport a platoon of soldiers and an armored support vehicle. The design team envisioned a heavy dropship with sophisticated defenses and VTOL thrusters for quick deployment on rough terrain. The Valkyrie’s name honored a UEEN pilot who identified a Vanduul destroyer before being killed in action.

Anvil kept the Valkyrie’s development secret, leading to speculation that the leaked photos were of a new deep space fighter. However, in 2810, a UEE joint request for a heavy dropship aligned perfectly with Anvil’s completed Valkyrie, leading to a no-bid contract and production beginning in 2812.

Civilian Development

While the Valkyrie has yet to be used in mass invasions, it has proven its worth in combat, especially in frontier regions. Its ability to deploy an armored vehicle has made it a favorite among UEEN ground pilots. The demand for Valkyries has steadily increased, prompting Anvil to expand production across multiple worlds.

In 2948, Anvil introduced a civilian variant of the Valkyrie. Developed without government funds, the civilian version required minimal modifications from its military counterpart. Civilian Valkyries are now widely used by local militia, police units, and prospectors. Their ability to deploy ground vehicles on rough terrain has significantly sped up mining surveys and exploration missions, allowing single work teams to cover multiple sites efficiently.

Versatility and Future Potential

The Anvil Valkyrie stands as a testament to foresight and innovation, designed to meet the evolving needs of the UEE. Its versatility and advanced features make it a vital asset in both military and civilian contexts. As the demand for rapid deployment and efficient support continues to grow, the Valkyrie’s role is expected to expand further, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of interstellar operations.
